Our Standards
Equal Opportunities Policies
Relate is opposed to all forms of unfair discrimination practiced against people on the basis of personal or group characteristics, such as race, colour, culture, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, medical condition, socio-economic grouping or age. It is determined to make all efforts to prevent direct, indirect, intentional and unintentional discrimination against its existing personnel and those who approach the organisation as potential workers or users of its services.
Passive policies will not achieve the objective of ensuring equality of opportunity for people whose needs fall within the normal focus of Relate’s work; specific and positive programmes are required in order to ensure that in its personnel and in the nature and quality of its services, it reflects the whole of society. Consequently Relate has embarked upon a broad ranging, planned strategy of change and development in the belief that equal opportunities principles should permeate all its activities and should be taken into account in its policy making and planning.
Confidentiality and Safety
Relate offers private and confidential help to our clients. We will not normally give your name or any information from or about you to anyone outside the organisation unless we have reason to believe that someone, especially a child, is at risk of serious harm.
Violence and abuse is an issue for many people who come to us for help in their relationship. We know from our experience that in this situation, working with both partners together may not be safe. If this is so, we would help each partner to get individual specialist support from Relate or another agency.
Complaints
We always welcome comments about our services whether positive or negative. If you have a concern about a Relate service please mention it to the member of staff involved. If their response does not or cannot readily resolve the matter there is a formal Complaints Procedure to assist you. That Procedure is designed to deal with matters such as a breach of the Code of Ethics.
